Zipp developed the Tangente High Performance Cork Brake Pad as a response to the intense heat caused by braking on carbon. These pads are designed for Zipp carbon rims and employ a composite cork polymer to reduce glazing and offer consistent brake response. As a result, the Tangente cork pad avoids the brake pulsation produced by residue buildup from rubber pads and can even eliminate pulsation from rims with previous buildup.
Even though the newer silver Tangente Platinum Pro Brake Pad is designed to perform better across all riding conditions, we realize there remain fans of the smooth consistent feel of cork.
Tangente High Performance Cork Brake Pad's unique shape places more material in the front of the pad to improve durability and shed water. Although the composite material wears similarly to low-temperature rubber compounds, the Tangente cork pad lasts longer than most rubber carbon-specific pads because of its shape and 0.5 mm greater overall thickness.
Please note: The Tangente pad may be used on any tubular or clincher rim with a carbon braking surface, but it should never be used on aluminum braking surfaces.

The Zipp Tangente Platinum Pro Brake Pad delivers smooth speed control, longer wear life and reliable stopping power for use on carbon braking surfaces in all conditions. Tour de France proven, the pad retains its stopping power in wet weather and provides a smooth ride during the many lighter brake touches required to navigate turns or group rides. The durable pad, developed by Zipp and SwissStop, has no abrasives that damage the rim. It also does not discolor rims.
The Tangente Platinum Pad is designed for use on carbon rims and has not been approved for use on aluminum braking surfaces. It is available for SRAM, Shimano or Campagnolo 2011 brake-pad holders.

It is available for SRAM, Shimano or Campagnolo 2011 brake-pad holders. - With the introduction of wider rims, we have noticed that there is some special attention required on certain brake setups. The Tangente Platinum pad is roughly 1.2 mm wider, relative to the brake caliper arm, than our Tangente High Performance Cork pad. In certain applications this may require an adjustment to the spring tension screw on some brakes, which also controls the width that the brake caliper is able to open. If a simple cable adjustment still will not allow fitment of the wider rim inside the brake pads, please refer to your brake manufacturer's installation manual to determine if the caliper can be opened further. Most have this ability.
