Good overall groupI've been running Athena for about a year now and it is a pretty solid groupset overall. I have it all dialed in now (home mechanic) and it wasn't as easy to setup as other lower end groupsets I've experience, but now that it is dialed in it is very consistent with good front and rear shifting. The ergonomics are a bit different than Shimano- the campy hood place your hands a bit farther out and lower, so keep that in mind when buying. You may have to change your stem or bars if you're coming from a different brand.
Overall build quality is good. The parts all fit perfectly and assembly to the bike was pretty simple. Although the instructions are really not too good, so be ready to do a little bit of research if you haven't built up a groupset before.
So far, no BB creaking after an entire year! (threaded BB)
My main advice is to buy the correct cassette when selecting your groupset because the wrong choice is quite costly (Campy parts are expensive!). I would not recommend the 12-27 or 11-27 cassette. The 12-29 or 11-29 offers the same cogs for the 9 smaller cogs, but for some odd reason the 27 cassettes have the smallest percentage jumps between the 2 largest cogs, which is a bad setup. The cassettes with 29 tooth top cogs have a more even spread and give a greater range. -
FantasticI bought the Athena to upgrade and update my old bike and it is absolutely an excellent group, my bike became much better with this Campagnolo groupset!
It is very fast with my 12-29 even during a climb and it is also light weight and good looking with very elegant shifters -
Like having a new bike!Bought the full groupset to upgrade my 5yr old Bianchi before a trip to Mt Ventoux. Much better than the original parts and made gear changes so much crisper. Wish I'd done it sooner!
Staff were really helpful when I collected the parts, although it turned out the brake calipers weren't suitable for my bike. Ribble exchanged them without any issues. -
Buying the 2015 groupset has given me Athena at 105 prices.Great equipment. My only reservation is the poor maintenance setup for Power Torque cranks- special extractors just to remove the left hand crank. But it seems to make it lighter than Ultra, so nt agreat problem. Looking forward to building up the new bike!
