Description
Continental CycloX-King Rigid Tyre The X-King for cross riders After a successful start on the MTB scene, the award winning X-King pattern is now available to cyclocross racers and recreational riders. Continental developed a tread pattern that is studded enough to work well in muddy conditions, yet roll like a semi slick in a straight line. Ask countless MTB XC racers and they'll tell you that the X-King is fast! The tall shoulder lugs do provide great bite in the loose and wet corners and of course, our special Black Chili soft compound boosts grip in all situations whether they be hard & dry, cold & wet, roots, off-cambers, grass or stone. When the tyre deforms under impact with the ground, the Black Chili compound aborbs the shock and propels you forward like no other tyre. It's fast, grippy and it lasts as long as a harder compound tyre, giving you great value for money! - Rec inflation pressure: 56psi (35mm), 50psi (42mm) - Max inflation pressure: 85psi - Weight: 450g (35mm), 490g (42mm)

Excellent choice for winter if it was more puncture proofPretty decent grip off road, comfortable ride, more capable in the mud than many, and very good price (with discount). Easy to fit as well, which helped when fixing punctures, which unfortunately was far too frequent.

Grippy but mind anything sharpGot a pair of these for winter work where my CX Comps wouldn't cope with the mud. The grip was great, really compliant tyres, great feedback and grip was ok though a little more spacing between the knobs would have improved things, they clog up on the really thick stuff.
BUT and this is why I stopped using them, the PUNCTURES. The worst I had was three (3!) on one ride. This is mainly thorns rather than flints. Pressure was irrelevant. Basically, 2 out 3 times I got a puncture, often front & back on the same ride. I was using it for Cross-country rather than racing but nothing brutal. Essentially, unusable.
You have warned.

- Can I use these with Dura Ace C24's or C50's, assuming they fit between my frame/forks.
-
Hi Rob,
According to the ETRTO manual, rims 20.5mm wide like the C24s and C50s can be used for tyres up to 62mm section, so this would be a safe combination. As they are a fairly lightweight road wheel I would take care using them in more heavy duty applications, but they are occasionally used in cyclocross.

Ben

- Are these tyres puncture resistant or have any inbuilt defence?
-
Hi Kev,
These tyres don't have any puncture resistant belt or extra reinforcement, but in our experience they are a fairly resilient tyre due to the thickness of the tread.
Best regards,
Ben @ Team Ribble
