Quality mid range product but uses proprietary chainrings
I bought this to build up a hybrid bike using a kona Sutra frame that has a braze on mounting for the front derailleur and mtb rear gearing. All worked well but the lowest gearing was not as low as the user wanted. It turns out that this Tiagra has adopted a 4 bolt system for the inner chainring, which means that only Shimano chainrings can be used and you cant go lower than 30 teeth.
If that isnt a problem then go for it. It works well with a tiagra derailleur and SLX handlebar controls. I personally prefer Campagnolo but I have good experiences of Shimano from the "put it together and it will work" point of view.
