I currently have a 10 speed Ultegra/105 groupset will this be all I need to upgrade to 11 speed apart from the cassette. My wheel is 11 speed compatible. Can I still use my original 10speed chainset and chain?
Thanks for your question.
This set up would not work, as the chain would be too wide. Therefore we could not advise this.
Continuation of previous Q&A. So if i also purchase a 11 speed chain and 11 speed cassette along with this groupset will this will work with my 10 Speed Ultegra 6700 chainset?
Just dont need the brakes or BB of a full groupset
Yes, this will be suitable, as you would then have compatible STI units, derailleurs, cassette and chain.
Please note however that a 10-speed chainset will not work correctly with the narrower chain, and may be noisy and cause 'clunky' gear changes and excessive chain wear. This is also not recommended by the manufacturer.
Upgrading a 10 speed groupset.
Am I correct in assuming that these STI's will work with 10 speed (7900 model) brake calipers.
I believe there was a change from 7800 to 7900 but not since. Right?
Thank you for getting in touch.
Shimano's compatibility chart shows that the 6800 STI's are indeed perfectly compatible with 7900 calipers.
The Ultegra transmission set will be supplied with the SS rear derailleur and is designed to work with the 11 - 28 cassette. Unfortunately we are not able to make changes to the transmission sets on the website sorry.
