Description
BB GXP XR Cups
This bottom bracket will keep pedals insulated and turning smoothly. SRAM uses gutter seal technology that vastly improves sealing against the elements while reducing seal drag. The GXP system uses two bicycle-specific cartridge bearings and eight seals for a smooth and long lasting ride.
- For use with a tandem

Careful with purchaseI bought this item for my MTB as it looked the same as the BB I took out in the photo above. In fact, when fitted, the drive side is on the opposite side. It is intended for the front of a tandem where the drive side is on the opposite side. Don't order for a solo cycle! Ribble told me to use this one: www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sram-gxp-team-cups/#pid=29375%C2%A0

XR sizingFor those looking and wondering - I just did a little googling and it looks like the XR bearings are a little heavier duty (for Tandem applications), and are WIDER than standard GXP bearings, consequently the standard GXP crank is too short for this BB, by 2-3mm overall.

Hi, is this Bottom Bracket english threaded or Italian?
-
- Is this for the front or rear of a tandem? There are two different types, the front one has reverse threads on both cubs to accommodate the front tandem chain set with cross over drive.
-
Thank you for your question.
This is for the rearmost BB of a tandem - it is conventionally English threaded.

- Can you please clarrify a previous answer please. Are you certain this is for the rear chainset on a tandem, as this is to be used in an old Boarman Team, which did use the BB described. However, the Tandem front has the bearings reversed in the cups, because the drive side is on the left, whereas the rear is on the right. The non drive side has a smaller diameter hole in the bearing so they are not interchangeable. A standard SRAM GXP BB is slightly norrower so is not suitable. The drive side has a plastic collet fitted.

Hi,
Thanks for your enquiry.
This is the Italian thread version (both cups are right hand thread), designed for 83mm wide bottom bracket shells. If the shell on your tandem bike is 83mm wide and has an Italian thread than this would work well.
Kind regards,
Team Ribble
