The new Bora Ultras with an 80mm rim for tubular tires have been designed and tested in our wind tunnel with the aim of making them as aerodynamic and steady as possible, so that they would be responsive during sudden pace changes and balanced at quicker paces.
The new Bora Ultra 80 wheels have a carbon hub and an oversize aluminium flange. Like their 50mm equivalents, they are fitted with the special ball/bearings system with CULT technology, the combination of the best ceramic balls and the special Cronitect steel cup/cone. The CULT allows the wheel to be 9 times smoother compared to the traditional steel ball/bearings system. The balls and bearings are only lubricated with oil instead of grease. The treatment used for the bearings prevents oxidation and maintains performance over time.
The new Bora Ultra 80 are also fitted with a dynamic balancing system in the rim: thanks to a special solution applied at the time of manufacturing, the surface of the carbon fibre is positioned in order to achieve a perfect balancing of the rim even at high speed.
The design of the spokes has been created with great care to the smallest detail to make the wheel responsive and steady: the front wheel has 16 stainless steel aero-radial spokes with a variable section and the rear wheel is fitted with 18 stainless steel aero-radial spokes with a variable section and doubled on the cassette side. They are both fitted with an antirotation system for the spokes that always keeps them in an optimal position.
At just 1540 gr. (715g + 825g) the overall weight of the two wheels is a record.

The 101's centerpiece is the first fully toroidal aluminium rim, developed in the wind tunnel with a proprietary profile curve extending across the braking surfaces. With this patented design, the 30 mm-deep 101 can exceed the aerodynamic performance of V-shaped rims with much deeper aero profiles. And no shallow-profile design comes close to the 101 in the wind tunnel or on the road, where the 101 can save up to 42 seconds over 40 km compared with the industry's benchmark aluminium wheelset.
Creating the 101 required developing new technologies to conduct wind-tunnel testing using structural prototypes with fully inflated clincher tires. This makes the resulting test data more accurate and realistic than ever before. After our engineers honed in on the fastest shape, the manufacturing process required its own set of innovations for rolling, welding and machining the 101's precisely curved toroidal profile.
With a maximum width of 24.5 mm to complement most common tyre sizes, the bulged profile of the 101 smoothes airflow around the wheel more effectively than typical narrow rim designs. The 101's wide platform also resists pinch flatting, improves lateral stiffness and provides stable handling without tire "squirm" on rough surfaces.
Because the rim is narrower at the hook bead than in the middle, the 101 can be used safely with tyres as narrow as 21 mm, unlike other wide-profile clincher rims. The 101 is optimized for tyres in the 23 to 25 mm range, those preferred by most roadies. The maximum recommended tire width for the 101 is 35 mm.

The 808 changed perceptions about deep-section wheels. At first, its 81 mm-deep profile appeared only in time trials and triathlons. And sure enough, its early incarnations netted numerous Grand Tour stage wins and Ironman world championship at Kona. Still, it didn't take long before Zipp riders discovered that the 808's light weight, responsiveness, and solid handing are ideally suited to hilly bike legs, criteriums, field sprints and long days off the front of the peloton.
Now, with the new Firecrest rim shape, the 808 has improved in almost every metric. In fact, the 808 Firecrest is the fastest front wheel we've ever tested. Its 27.5 mm-wide profile is 15 seconds faster than before over 40 km, and now equals or exceeds the performance of any 90 mm-deep rim on the market as well as many discs. At high wind angles, the 808's aero advantage is even greater, yet Firecrest also makes the 808 remarkably stable.
Essentially, the 808 Firecrest provides the speed of a much deeper rim with the handling of a much shallower one. On windy non-disc-legal course like Kona, that counts for a lot. When we introduced the 900 we changed expectations for disc wheels. We demonstrated that they didn't have to weigh as much as a small dog while offering the stiffness necessary to perform under the world's greatest cyclists. The 900 continues to be the disc of choice for riders who want the speed of a disc and the ease of use of a clincher rim.
Rather than post-bonding a rim around a flat or lenticular disc, we've incorporated our patented toroidal rim shape and used our proprietary M2CM technology to increase strength while reducing drag around the interface of aluminum and carbon. For long-course triathletes, the bulged cross-section offers a comfortable vertical compliance that can reduce fatigue during long stretches in the saddle.
With the ease of clinchers and optimal aerodynamics for tires up to 23 mm, the 900 Clincher is the perfect choice on less-than-perfect road surfaces. This disc may also be adapted for track use.

Zipp Disc Super-9 Tubular Rear Wheel
The Super-9 disc has an unassuming profile: It borrows from the perimeter shape that makes the Sub-9 so fast it can actually generate forward lift when paired with our Tangente tyres. But in place of the Sub-9's toroidal bulge, the Super-9 remains flat from its widest point all the way to the hub. This relatively simple-looking shape results in a wheel that's as fast as the Sub-9 but stiffer than any other disc Zipp make.
Originally intended for time trials, track racing and the occasional Tour de France prologue, the Super-9 also has become a favorite among Ironman-distance and 70.3-distance athletes. It's the wheel that Marino Van Hoenacker chose en route to the fastest Ironman race time ever at Ironman Austria.
The Super-9 is the all-around rocket that will outclass any other disc we've tested, even with 23 mm tires. Its hub features the stiff 17 mm axles of the 188 road hub along with adjustable bearing preload with the industry's only aero preload nut. The standard version of the Super-9 weighs less than 1000 grams and is convertible between road and track setups.
