    Frequently Asked
    Questions
How do I select the power assist level?

There is an easy-to-use button on the top tube that enables you to set the level of assistance that you require and which also displays the battery charge remaining.

How will I know how much battery I have left?

The top tube button tube indicates the remaining battery life at a glance using a simple traffic light system. White= 75% capacity or more remaining, Green= 50-75%, Amber= 25-50%, Red= 15-25%, Slow Red Flash= 10-15% and Rapid Red Flash= 10% or less remaining. You can also keep track of the remaining battery life using the MAHLE companion app.

Do I need to pedal to ride this e-bike?

Yes, our e-bikes are pedal-assisted models which require rider input at all times.

I’m worried I won’t have full control over the bike.

There's no need to worry; being a pedal-assisted model means you are always in full control. When a power assist level is selected, the motor simply provides a little extra boost whilst you pedal and does not take over.

Do I need tax, insurance or a licence to ride the e-bikes?

No, pedal-assisted electric bikes do not require you to hold a valid driver’s licence, pay any road tax or take out insurance.

How do I charge the battery?

To charge the battery, simply plug the bike into a household socket using the supplied charger and cable. (The optional range extender can also charge the main battery whilst you are on the move).

Can I ride this in the wet?

The electric components used on our e-bikes are IP54-rated. They can be used in inclement weather conditions and are protected against splashing but not against full immersion or when subjected to pressurised water from a hose pipe or jet wash. When transporting the bike outside of a vehicle, a waterproof cover should be utilised to protect the electronic components from water damage during such transportation. As with any bike, we recommend thoroughly cleaning and drying the bike after any wet weather ride to ensure the peak performance of your bike.

Is it possible to test ride the bike?

You can test-ride any of our e-bikes and receive expert buying advice at our flagship Clitheroe showroom. Please contact the showroom in advance so that we can ensure that any suitable bikes you wish to test are available for your visit. During the summer months, we also host demo events across the UK. For details of the dates and timings of these events, please refer to our events page.

Alternatively, you can hire the e-bike from E-Venture Bikes in Keswick; the rental cost will then be deducted from your purchase should you decide to buy one of our e-bikes.

Can this bike be purchased on a Cycle to Work scheme?

All e-bikes can be purchased through all major Cycle to Work scheme providers. The government have even abolished the £1000 limit, making obtaining an e-bike on cycle to work more beneficial than ever.

How fast can I go on the CGR AL e?

The MAHLE X35 power assist system offers assistance up to 15mph, at which point (by law, as with all e-bikes in the UK) the assistance cuts out. If you drop back below 15mph, then the system will re-engage until such time as you turn it off.

What range can I expect from the bike?

The CGR AL e's battery range depends on several factors, including rider weight, route profile and temperature. A rider of 90kg on a varied route, including climbs, descents and flats, can expect an approximate range of up to 60 miles. An optional range extender is also available for all our e-bikes, effectively doubling the bike's available range.

    Will my pannier rack fit?

The CGR AL e has mounts for fitting a rear pannier rack.

What size tyres can be fitted?

    There is clearance for 650b x 48mm or 700c x 45mm tyres and 40mm with mudguards fitted.

What type of axles does the CGR AL e have?

The MAHLE system requires a bolt-on fitting rear wheel; the front is a standard 12 x 100mm bolt thru-axle.

Is the bike supplied with pedals?

No, we do not supply pedals with this bike; a selection of pedals is available to order with the bike.

    How heavy is the bike?

With SRAM Apex 1x and in a size Medium, it weighs in at approx 13.5kgs, making it one of the lightest e-bike ranges in the world. We also make the lightest e-road bikes worldwide.

    Can the battery be removed?

The battery can be accessed through the bottom bracket. The press fit bottom bracket has to be removed first to facilitate this removal.

What is the life expectancy of the battery?

The battery can reach up to 500 charging cycles while still retaining up to 90% of its capacity as long as its care and maintenance are adequate. For maximum efficiency, it is important to maintain a battery charge of between 20-80% of its total capacity. Charging the battery to 100% from fully depleted is one complete charging cycle. Similarly, topping up the battery from 80-100% five times amounts to one complete charging cycle. If you are not using your bike for a period, you should always ensure that it is stored in a dry environment (out of direct sunlight) with a charge level of between 40-50%. A full charge should also be carried out every two months. Take care not to leave the charger connected to the bike continuously; doing so could accelerate the degradation of battery life. Ideally, the charger should not be connected for more than 5 hours. Use only the original Ebikemotion charger supplied with your bike.

What if I get a puncture?

Simply disconnect the cable to the rear wheel motor by unclipping the connector on the chainstay. Then, use an 8mm Allen key to loosen the nuts on the rear axle, then reverse the process when the puncture has been repaired.

    What's the bike's warranty?

The frame has a 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects. All other parts are covered by the manufacturer's standard warranty. The MAHLE system is covered against manufacturing defects for a period of 2-years.
