May 29, 2020

We are delighted to have the opportunity to welcome Adam Bowden to Team Ribble. Adam is a supremely talented triathlete who has now turned his attention to competing in the Ironman 70.3. events. Adam will compete throughout the 2019 season upon a custom colour Ribble Ultra Tri.

BACKGROUND

Adam grew up in Watford and started out in triathlon back in 2008 having come from an athletics and national level swimming background. It was in athletics where Adam first showed his sporting potential and in 2001 placed 6th at the European Junior Cross Country Championships, behind a second-placed Mo Farah. Adam then specialised in the 3K Steeplechase and was the British national champion and Olympic trials winner. 2006 saw him finish 9th in this event at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, whilst also representing GB in road, track and cross country athletics competition.

10 AT THE TOP IN ITU

Turning his attentions to the world of multi-sport in 2008, Adam’s athletics pedigree and background in swimming enabled him to go straight in at the top level of the sport. Joining the world class performance programme in 2010, Adam’s route into triathlon came via the TRI Gold programme which is  British Triathlon’s talent identification programme aimed at fast tracking athletes into becoming world class triathletes.

Adam based himself out of Loughborough with British Triathlon, which marked the beginning of almost a decade of racing at the top level in for Great Britain in ITU events. Just one year later Adam finished seventh in the world championship series in Yokohama, and went on to build up an impressive race CV with multiple top 10 finishes, and an impressive haul of 7 British Triathlon national championship titles.

Turning his attentions to middle distance racing, a debut 70.3 season saw a notable string of results, with a winning debut in Rome, and culminating with setting a new British 70.3 record at the end of the 2018 season in Bahrain.

“My 70.3 debut season has been an absolutely incredible journey… to finish the season in Bahrain and take that British record was the best highlight”

2019 AND BEYOND

This season, Adam was quick to capitalise on his strong middle-distance debut and good form, taking an early season win at Ironman 70.3 Dubai, and running his way to the men’s title at the opening leg of the triple crown event. Another podium at Ironman 70.3 Oceanside - after clocking the fastest run of the day -marked a solid start to the season. Adam is looking ahead to the rest of the season now, with one eye on the 70.3 European and World championships, along with targeting the coveted triple crown.

“I feel I’ve only scratched the surface of what I’m capable of at this distance. With the right support I can take my racing to the next level and build on a record-breaking debut 70.3 season”

Adam is delighted to be working with Ribble for the 2019 season riding the custom colour Ultra Tri. Having worked closely with the team at Ribble over recent weeks Adam is looking forward to realising the benefits of a few changes to his set up and taking full advantage of the Ultra Tri’s aerodynamic and aggressive set up to maximise watt saving going into his next race at Ironman 70.3 Pays D’Aix.
