Can I ride this in the wet?
The electric components used on our e-bikes are IP54 rated. They are protected against splashing, but not against full immersion. The electric bike should never be subjected to pressurised water from a hose pipe or jet wash, failure to adhere to this may result in damage to the electrical components that comprise the motor system . When transporting the bike on the outside of a vehicle a waterproof cover should be used to ensure the protection of the electronic components from water ingress during transportation.
Can this bike be purchased on a cycle to work scheme?
Yes, all e-bikes can be purchased through all the major cycle to work scheme providers. The government have even removed the £1000 limit making obtaining an e-bike on cycle to work more beneficial than ever.
How do I charge the battery?
To charge the battery you simply plug the bike into a household socket using the supplied charger and cable. (The optional range extender can also charge the main battery whilst you are on the move).
Is it possible to test ride the bike?
You can test ride any of our e-bikes and receive expert buying advice at our flagship Clitheroe showroom. Please contact the showroom in advance so that we can ensure that any suitable bikes that you wish to test are available for your visit. During the summer months, we also host demo events at various locations across the UK. For details of the dates and times of these events please refer to our events page.
Alternatively, you can hire the e-bike from E-Venture Bikes in Keswick, the rental cost will then be deducted from your purchase should you decide to buy one of our e-bikes. We also hope to be able to reinstate the Ribble roadshows which travel around the UK offering people the opportunity to test ride our bikes. We will update the events page of our website and share the details via our social channels once we have any events confirmed.
How fast can I go on the CGR AL e?
The MAHLE SmartBike Systems X35+ power assist system offers assistance up to 15mph, at which point (by law, as with all e bikes in the UK) the assistance cuts out. If you drop back below 15mph then they system will re-engage until such time as you turn the assistance off.
What range can I expect from the bike?
The battery range of the CGR AL e depends on a number of factors including rider weight, route profile and temperature. A rider of 90kg, on a varied route including climbs, descents and flats can expect an approximate range of 60 miles. An optional range extender is also available for all of our e-bikes, which gives a total capacity of 456Wh and adds an extra 70% of effective range.
Will my pannier rack fit?
The CGR AL e has discreet pannier rack mounts built into the frame.
What size tyres can be fitted?
There is clearance for tyres up to 45mm in width on 700c wheels and 47mm on 650b without mudguards, or 40mm with guards fitted.
What type of axles does the CGR AL e have?
The MAHLE SmartBike System uses a bolt-on style dropout at the rear, the front is a standard 12x100mm bolt thru-axle.
Is the bike supplied with pedals?
No, we do not supply pedals with this bike, a selection of pedals are available to order with the bike.
How heavy is the bike?
With SRAM Apex 1x and in a size Medium it weighs in at approx 13.5kgs making it one of the lightest e bike ranges in the world. We also make the lightest e road bikes in the world.
Can the battery be removed?
Yes, the battery can easily be accessed through the bottom bracket by any MAHLE certified technician. The press fit bottom bracket has to be removed first to facilitate this removal.
What is the life expectancy of the battery?
Like any battery, the capacity will start to degrade over time, in the case of the Panasonic battery, after approximately 500 charging cycles. Please take some time to read our battery care blog in which we outline the best practices to ensure that your e-bike's battery continues to function at optimal efficiency throughout its lifetime.
What if I get a puncture?
Simply disconnect the cable to the rear wheel motor by unclipping the connector on the chainstay. Then, using an 8mm allen key to loosen the nuts on the rear axle, then reverse the process when the puncture has been repaired.
What's the warranty of the bike?
The frame has a 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects. All other parts are covered by the manufacturer's standard warranty. The Ebikemotion system is covered against manufacturing defects for a period of 2-years.
