Absolutely loved the bike looked even better than it did on the website but it wouldn’t go into the big gear and as such ‘new bike day’ was a total let down. I suspect it will be a very quick bike with fully operating gears which surprised me as I thought it would be just quicker than my mountain bike. Looking forward to getting to use it properly
This was my first drop bar bike in over 25 years. I wanted something that would be quicker than my MTB on the road but still handle the gravel tracks and towpaths. Growing up we used to stick knobbly tyres on racing bikes and load them up with fishing gear and go wherever we wanted. That's what I was after and apparently they're now called gravel bikes!
I came across Ribble by accident whilst searching for alternatives to the brands I was familiar with as they were all sold out in larger frame sizes. I did a lot of research online and made the uncomfortable (for me) decision to buy a Ribble CGR AL without actually seeing the bike.
I was kept informed of its progress through the build queue by the workshop and delivery was on time and within a couple of days of build being completed.
Unboxing and assembly were done after work and were straightforward. I was glad that the assembly instructions were sent before the bike as I needed to get a torque wrench but after that all was good.
The first ride was short due to the time and I found the rear derailleur slightly noisy. A couple clicks of the adjuster sorted that. Since then I've been out on it almost every day on a mixture of roads towpaths and road-stone / gravel paths and I think its brilliant. Its taken a few rides to get seat height just right and I'm not as confident yet on the loose tracks as I would be on my MTB but getting quicker each time.
The gearing is perfect for the roads I ride on and is really slick now I've got used to the combined brakes / gear shifts.
I bought this bike to try and force some overdue lifestyle changes and thought I would have to push myself to go out on it, however its great fun and I find myself really looking forward to riding it.
Almost forgot to add, it looks amazing and really stands out on trails where almost every other bike is a MTB or Hybrid (I picked the orange version as I thought it was more visible on the road).
I've gone on a bit so use whichever bits of this review you want, but in summary, I had never heard of Ribble but the bike ticked all the boxes on paper and it definitely exceeded my expectations when I rode it. Its comfy, quick and great fun.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
