Ribble Endurance AL Disc Customer Reviews
Bike looked sick out the box. Didn't see the metallic white finisher and some of the cool graphic details in the pictures online, looks way better in person.
Was a little confused when my large turned up and had a 55.5 sticker on it. However after a quick email it was confirmed that's the size large measure for my bike. Built it up and fits well.
Rides great and been racing friends on bikes and in cars on the commute.
The purchase experience was excellent. At the time of placing the order I was advised that the process may take up to two weeks, but at various stages I got updates to let me know this would be just over a week for the build and 2 days to ship.
The bike arrived, as planned, on day 10.
I found the bike to be very well packed, so the minor box damage had no impact in the bike inside.
Unpacking was easy and initial assembly quite simple too.
My intended use of this bike is as a High Speed long distance commuter, so I was also fitting full mudguards and a light weight rack. These also went on without trouble and I have to say I love the hidden fittings under the fork crown and rear bridge. Neat touches that really make the completed machine look planned.
Due to family commitments, I was unable to get out for a Proper ride until the Monday following my taking delivery, which was my ride to work. A 32mile ride from Neath to Llantrisant along the a48 and A473. The bike rode well but the 30-45 mph head wind was brutal. It was in this wind, on the drops that I realised the stock 100mm stem wasn't quite long enough.
The return ride was planned to take me up the Rhondda valley and up over the Bwlch to see how much better this climbs than its predecessor (KTM Oxford 9 citibike)
Its much better.
A) even with the rack and guards it's 3.5kg lighter.
B) the 2x11 105 groupset gives me muck more range than the 1x9 on the KTM.
Decending was not do much fun though (I am not a skillful bike handler) the 30+mph tailwind was OK, but when it suddenly hits you from the side, the light and responsive Endurance gets a bit twitchy and nervous compared to the more planted KTM with its additional weight and fatter tyres (700c 40s)
Once back in the valley there was just the hill over Cimla to deal with before home. This has 2 stupid steep stretches over a roughly 1 mile ascent of about 400 feet. Both easily ridden with the slick shifting 105 groupset. The decent into Neath always scares me as its fast, but built up and busy with a mini supermarket half way down that cars turn into and out of without looking.
The hydraulic disks on the Endurance are fantastic. They are very powerful, but also very controllable and inspire confidence like I have not experienced on a road bike. Ever.
Once home, I checked everything was still tight (it was) and swapped the 100mm stem got a 130mm Deda I had in the spares box. This has had 2 effects. The bars now feel to be in the right place and the front feels a bit more stable in the wind, probably as its shifted a bit more of my ot inconsiderable weight onto the front.
I did my second long ride yesterday, with less wind and much more speed. Still a headwind for 30 miles, but far lighter. Took 5+ mins off my best time, done on the KTM with a monster tailwind.
I love this bike.
Oh, by the way, she's called Ruby.
